Are you that person who wants to save up but still chose not to? Do you have a lot of alibis when it comes to money saving? Saving is actually one of the trickiest parts of the life of an adult.
You don’t actually know when to start or end it and you’re unsure if your savings are enough for you to sustain all throughout your retirement period.
Since it’s quite hard to save money, there are so many reasons people usually say to defend themselves and here are some of the hilarious excuses people usually say if they haven’t saved money yet.
“Too old/young to save”
There’s no such thing as an age when it comes to saving. No one cares if you’re just 15 or if you are already a 50-year-old employee.
If you care for your future, you should start making a plan on how would you be able to save money. If you think that you’re still young, take that as an advantage because you will most likely going to get a huge amount of money after retiring.
“I still have numerous debts to pay”
While you are paying your debts, also leave some cash for your savings.
Compute your debts and take note of the higher bill that you have and pay that first. Take a certain percentage of your paycheck, and allocate it to savings. You can use the remainder for your other expenses such as your debts.
“My money is not enough”
This is in relation with the second excuse. You can always start with a small amount.
After that, if your salary increases, you can add more to the amount of money you’re allotting to your savings. It’s not about how small or big your savings is, it’s about having savings that will save your financial problems in the future.
“I don’t know how to save”
The truth is, you know how to save but you don’t know what part of your salary needs to be put on your savings. There are no limits on how much money you should save.
Remember when you’re still a baby and you don’t know how to walk yet? This is similar to saving money; all you have to do is to take some baby steps.
“I’m not that kind of person who saves”
If you don’t want to be broke when you grow old then you must be that kind of person. It’s not about who you are in the present but it’s about what you would look like in the future.
If you think that you’re not capable of saving, think of the possible situation that might happen to you if you don’t have any savings. Budgeting is difficult, yes, but saying no to things we may want now doesn’t mean we won’t be able to buy it anymore.
“I need to buy this first”
Is that the reward that you would like to give to yourself? If yes, then how many times have you been rewarding yourself this month?
It’s okay to buy things for yourself but the downside of it is that you end up leaving nothing to yourself. There are things that you genuinely need and things that you thought you need.
Having the knowledge to differentiate the two is important.
“I still have lot of time to save”
You’re still young and you think that the word “later” is applicable to every situation. Guess what, it’s not.
Doing everything for later is one of the worst mistakes you’ll ever do in your life. May it be about finishing your tasks or when will you start saving, this kind of mindset will definitely not a good attitude to consider.
“I know how to budget my money”
The hardest part of saving is to know how to start. You should keep track of your expenses every month.
After that, you can start planning your budget for the following month. Your budget should outline how your expenses measure up to your income—so you can plan your spending and limit overspending.
“It’s better to live in the moment”
You are enjoying today but you end up worrying about tomorrow. FOMO and YOLO are two acronyms that are revolving in your life right now—the fear of missing out and the reason that you only live once.
You want to keep up with the latest trends but unknowingly, this is one of the subdued reasons why you can’t save.
“Whenever I try saving money, unexpected payments occur”
Those payments won’t occur if you manage your finances well. Ask yourself, have you been an overspender for the past weeks? Are you still aware of the deadline of payments of your bills?
If you answer ‘no’ to these questions then you shouldn’t just manage your budget, you should learn how to manage your schedule, too.
Sometimes, saving still depends on the person—how would they manage their finances. You might think it is impossible to do but with a proper budgeting system, you’ll be surprised that you’ve made it. You did save money for yourself.
If you’re the type of person who always says: “I couldn’t save money because (insert the 10 excuses here)”, most likely, you won’t be able to save money your whole lifetime.
So, the question is, are you that type of person?
